Communication is undoubtedly one of the most essential activities in life of all species. Humankind, through ages, has overcome many changes since the first picture was carved on the wall of the cave to nowadays when people can communicate with each other no matter how far they are.
For some animals, communication is the basic instinct which help them find the food or protect themselves from danger. For human, communication is at a higher level. It makes people know about each other, solve a problem together or express the emotion. Beside languages and gesture, the basic means of communication, modern people have mobile phone, fax or internet to contact to each other. The development of technology not only makes the communication become easier but also more complicated. It is no longer a basic instinct that people were born to have. It is what we have to learn. Good communication can help us make friend with others, solve the problem faster and save time.

Communication and teamwork are very important in studying and working. They can get the job done fast and effective. A good communication and teamwork skill can be a key to the success.
I agree with the part on the expansion of communciation that comes with the advancement in technology. From using string cups to the modern social networking website like facebook. Even using of blogs (like now) to write down our reflections are also part of learning effective communciation.
ReplyDeleteCommunciation has been through many different forms. But i believe the basic principles of effective communciations would still hold no matter how advance technology can be. :)
It's absolutely right to say that communication and teamwork go hand in hand.
ReplyDeleteLet us put things into perspective: First, a team which does not communicate, and a 'team' that communicates with no teamwork. A group of people who do not communicate with one another would fail simply because there are bound to be conflicts in thoughts, and also due to the fact that there is no common goal. All these can be easily resolved if the team communicates and share their thoughts.
Conversely, a team that communicates well could seem like a blessing. However, without the all-important 'teamwork', job delegation would be met with constant hiccups, and the team could face inefficiencies in handling job deadlines.
Hence, a team with excellent teamwork and effective communications would be the most productive and sought after.

ReplyDeleteYou were absolutely right about the fact that a team thrives on mutual understanding which in turn stems from effective and tactful communication.
ReplyDeleteAs you said, development in technology has made communication more complicated. This is true in some circumstances, such as one in which we make use of electronic media, where there arises a higher probability of the receivers misunderstanding the message as they have no way of interpreting our facial expressions or any other instinctive gesture.
I feel you could have spiced up your blog entry by either recollecting a relevant incident that you have experienced or by writing in first person about how vital communicating effectively and working as a team is in your day to day life.
ReplyDeleteI think its nice that you have managed to convey all your thoughts effectively in a short and crisp post ! :)
I like the way you bring in the idea of human communication and team work as different levels communication. Your entry structure is good and it is easy to follow. Perhaps you could add in some personal experiences to make the entry more relevant to yourself.
ReplyDeleteI like your point about technology making communication more convenient but more complex. It is true that with the development of technology, more communication tools are created. And indeed, we have to learn how to use the new tools of communication besides communication through speech and writings. For instance, we have to pick up the skills to use computers and handphones as they are the new communication tools. Communication nowadays are not as simple as before, and hence, we should put in more effort in learning how to communicate effectively.
Hi. This is Jing Mei. I made the previous comment but my name was not reflected. I will take note of this the next time I comment. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.
ReplyDeleteI like this post. You mentioned that technology intended to make communication simpler and thus more effective, but instead it became more complicated as people have to master the new medium of communication. This may not be a problem for the young who are eager to learn and communicate in a creative manner, but it can be a big problem for those who shun technology, in particular, the old. You said that teamwork is a higher level of communication. This is a very interesting way to describe teamwork. Yet, it seems to be absolutely true. There is certainly no way a team can work effectively with just the normal level of communication.
